Liverpool have failed to regain the top spot of the English Premiership, the Reds drew 1-1 in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield last night. The result now leaves Liverpool level on points with Manchester United who have a game in hand. The match was end to end soccer, with both teams pacing up and down the field trying to get an opener.
Everton continued to threaten the Red's goal but soon after the homes side appealed for a penalty when Fernando Torres was pushed in the area but Ref! eree Howard Webb dismissed the claim.
It was all Liverpool from them on Torres had another opportunity which he scuffed then Captain Steven Gerrard had one which was pushed away by Toffee's goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Eventually in the 68th minute Gerrard netted the opener however victory was not meant to be for the Red half of Merseyside. Tim Cahill equalised for his side close to the full time.
Red's Coach Rafael Benitez says even though United have a game in, it doesn't bother him.
"I was telling the players after the game, it's not easy and everyone is disappointed but we have to think about the positives, the (FA) Cup, the Champions League and also leveling points with United at the top of the table. So in August if we wanted to be in this position I can guarantee that 100% of the fans will say yes."
